Good Trainer Vs Great Trainer
A good trainer is someone who is proficient at prescribing exercises and protocols, a great trainer is someone who has mastered the art and science of movement and joint function. I refer to great trainers as Master trainers.
What is the job of a personal trainer?
The primary job of a personal trainer is to teach a trainee how to apply force to movement patterns in order to create an adaptive response(results). A master trainer is someone who has mastered the science of force and the art movement. Force is generated through several means; external resistance, bands, water, gravity, or internal resistance in the form of isometric contractions. Movement is an expression of joint articulation and a means by which to target specific areas of the body.
The quality and efficiency of the movement patterns are dependent on the functional capacity of the involved joints. If joint function is not optimal, movements patterns will be less than ideal. Faulty movement create compensatory patterns that may increase injury potential and joint pain. Herein lies the difference between a good trainer and a master trainer. A good trainer will modify movements based on your limitations but may not be skilled enough to address the root cause of your limitations. The master trainer can directly address the joint limitations, within the scope of their practice, and take the trainee to an optimal level of movement or even surpass their previous movement limits.
A master trainer is someone who can address the root cause of your limitations, regardless of the number of celebrity clients they have.
